The same problem is experienced currently on almost every server... however, I guess this has more to do with the holiday events (seriously, two world events at the same time are bound to get the servers down).
Once these annoying events are over, casuals will log in less frequently again, and not kill the instance servers because they need to do all instances once to find all elders.
Of course, Blizzard should now all this and take measures against. Why don't they? Because it costs money, and nobody will quit because of two weeks of lags.

I couldn't agree more, Lume. One would surmise that after fives years of WoW Blizzard would have their patch and maintenance procedures down to a fine art. With virtually no impact on database performance and stability as a result. The continued instability and server performance issues which you mentioned Lume, only add to my already high levels of frustrations with the game. For those of us with limited amounts of time to spend in-game as a result of work, studies and other RL issues, don't want to be standing around waiting for mail to appear, or a NPC to hand in a daily quest. Another prime example, my guild luckily enough managed to clear ICC 25-man (excluding Arthas) just in time for a server shutdown for another emergency database maintenance for 5 hours.

Lets hope we see some improvements, and soon.

I've been posting on and off as life permits. WoW is now casual fare for me, so the lack of recruiting has freed up some time. But I think my days of raiding will be done after ICC. I *may* PUG a bit in Cataclysm, but I'll be adjusting primarily to battleground PvP once rated BG's are out. And that will probably be the extent of what I do in Cataclysm. So long as it seems well-designed

In the meantime, I'll probably have to talk a bit about DAO and ME2 and more general gaming stuff. The medium has a lot of potential right now.

Anyway, it's good to see I still get some readers! Thanks for commenting, guys. =)

I think you've hit the nail on the head, judging by this article I'd say you and I come from substantially comparable backgrounds. I found the limit in TOCs heroics acceptable, because it was heroic mode... regular mode it doesn't seem as necessary to limit the attempts. Gating itself seems like an artificial way of prolonging the content, so they don't have to release a "mini" dungeon to keep people interested in the year before Cata's release. Not to come off all tin-foil hat, but at least that's how it feels to me. In general, as a raiding tank the entire instance feels like a punishment, not a reward for playing to the end. My gear got too good, so I have to take a debuff to a major tanking stat through the entire instance (again), and then the gating, then the limited attempts.

Even after you get Putricide and Blood Queen down, there's still the inevitable RNG to deal with. Some times you fumble. And I don't consider it clever or engaging content if suddenly you have to wait a week, because of a couple of bad luck situations.

I have nothing substantive to say other than it's great to have you back, Lume. I didn't realize you were posting again until the WoW.com reference. Thanks, and keep up you great posting.

Would the coincidental arrangement of the coffee grinds I'd throw away in the morning, assuming I actually drank coffee, be artistic? No. Can my thoughts surrounding that arrangement be artistic in nature? Some would say yes.

Personally, I find little to no value in those thoughts. I'd find more value in using coffee as an example treatment for a human vice, when cutting out the crap about the pattern the grinds make. There's a reason San Jose State awards the worst literary excerpts annually for the most outrageous and outlandish premises and symbolism, afterall. I stand in that camp. The grinds themselves have a banal existence. They can play a part in something artistic, but for most people it's a laughable source for art.

To put it most bluntly, I'd say we should stop fucking around with the laughably avant garde. Are patterned and altered graphics of Marylin Monroe actually art? Ugh. I say innovate more intelligently. Stop trying to be the black sheep. Stop trying to find meaning in excrement just because it's a human creation. It's a canine creation, as well. I note most people would agree dogs are not as artistically capable as human beings.

I don't mean to offend you by my use of outrageous examples. I realize they are condescending. But then I'm trying to hammer on a point, and sometimes that requires extending beyond the boundaries of comfort and simplicity.

Probably not all of them. But certainly some of them.

And in saying that, my head must really be stuck in my ass, right?
